Umi-Aisha Thomas, MSN, PMHNP
I go by Umi. I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse. My passion for helping others, especially those who struggle to be heard or respected, has been with me since childhood. This drive is both personal and professional, as my own experience supporting a family member through mental health challenges gave me insight into the profound impact it can have on an individual.
With 16 years of nursing experience spanning mental health, Telemetry, and medical-surgical nursing, I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, including correctional facilities. Throughout my career, I've discovered that my true calling is mental health care. I have extensive experience treating patients with conditions such as acute psychosis, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix and my Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University, Minneapolis, MN.
My approach to care is holistic, treating mental health and each patient's physical and emotional well-being. I believe in offering personalized, empathetic, compassionate care that acknowledges each individual's uniqueness. I aim to empower patients to overcome challenges and remind them they are much more than their illness.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. I also run a nonprofit organization that provides free medical assistance to Sierra Leone, my birth country.
